Fire and windstorm combined do not equal the over $2 billion in damage that termites inflict each year. While the prevalence of subterranean termites is much greater in the southern states, there are species of them in every state except Alaska.
There are three major types of termites that can cause damage to structures. Damp-wood, Dry Wood and Subterranean Termites. Damp-wood termites are rarely an issue, but Dry Wood and Subterranean Termites are the two most likely to cause harm to a home or building.
